James Wright
James Wright is an Aotearoa New Zealand sculptor who draws inspiration from his heritage and rural upbringing. His large-scale Corten steel sculptures are found throughout the country in private and public collections. A raw and natural style gives his work a distinctive and striking look. Working with the steel’s natural tendencies, he finds forms within the material and draws them out to stand proud in the landscape. James’s artworks have won awards or been voted People’s Choice in several of Aotearoa’s leading sculpture exhibitions, and his work has featured on television shows such as Grand Designs, Design Junkies and Seven Sharp.

Vote for this work:
Long Fin Eels, Tuna – Kuwharuwharu is an installation of sculptures, made out of durable Corten steel, depicting three long-fin eels emerging slithering from the water, symbolising the importance of running creeks in our ecosystems. The didactic purpose of the work is balanced with the playfulness of its design, strength of form and its presence in space.
