Jorge Wright
Supported by:
Born in 1997 to two artist parents, Jorge Wright feels fortunate to have grown up surrounded by native bush in Clevedon, in a household that nurtured his creativity. With a goal to work for himself, Jorge spent a few years at university exploring a design degree, and a year in the building industry. Combining the skills he has learnt, he is excited to be creating some unique artwork. Having previously exhibited (and been awarded the People’s Choice award) at Sculpture on the Gulf in 2022, Jorge is honoured to be exhibiting at another of Aotearoa New Zealand’s premier sculpture exhibitions.

Sow in Love is an ode to the joy and beauty found in nature. Abstract seedlings playfully sprout up into dancing figures, gleefully scattering themselves across the landscape – they sow in love, in the hope of growth. The figures symbolise our relationship with nature, one that we must imbue with love. The message to sow, plant and replenish is a call to action to preserve nature’s beauty for generations to come, while mitigating the destruction already wrought. Hidden amongst the frolicking sprouts lie the words ‘Sow’ and ‘Love’: faint enough to miss, but a delight once spotted. The work is a provocation to reflect on our own actions and thoughts, prompting conversation on how each of us can contribute more.
