Greg Tuthill
Greg Tuthill is a self-taught sculpture artist. Working in the mediums of steel, bronze and glass, he utilises techniques including 3D and 2D CAD design, mixed with manual construction, welding, grinding and finishing. He is interested in contrasting new mediums and modern techniques with aged materials and manual processes. His work is characterised by strong geometric lines, complex but clean structure, and elements of balance. Greg is an experienced bonsai practitioner, and this also influences his sculptures and design perspective.

Greg explores geometry in the plant world in his work Nonagon Acorn. He has chosen the acorn for its fascinating contrast in texture between the smooth nut and the textured cupule (the cup-like structure that supports the nut), and its mathematical form – the cupule follows a Fibonacci geometry. Using Corten steel for its organic look and feel, his abstracted nine-sided form approximates the cylindrical acorn, while still incorporating a deliberate golden ratio.
